Wat is een grap?
Hilbert en Einstein enerzijds en Wittgenstein anderzijds hadden een fundamenteel andere visie op humor. Dat is het onderwerp van een wetenschappelijke studie aan de universiteit van Cambridge.
U weet dat ik erg zorgvuldig ben in het citeren van mijn bronnen, maar jammer genoeg ben ik de link naar het desbetreffende onderzoek verloren geraakt. Dus ik hoop dat u mij die nalatigheid voor die ene keer kan vergeven. (“I give no sources, because it is indifferent to me whether what I have thought has already been thought before me by another.”)

Dit is een Einstein-Hilbert grap.
Zij gaan mee in de "bestaande logica". Zij gaan mee in de "contradictio in terminis"

Wittgenstein schreef een boekje waar hij het allemaal in uitlegde.
Stap voor stap om er dan uiteindelijk naar te wijzen.

"Over de inhoud van Wittgenstein’s wijze uitspraak bestaan nogal wat misverstanden, zeker in het Nederlands dat maar 1 woord heeft voor ‘moeten’. Zo lezen velen de uitspraak als een waarschuwing voor mensen die het niet kunnen laten om in alle kwesties hun medemensen te belasten met hun doorgaans platvloerse mening. Wanneer je over een complexe affaire amper iets zinnigs te zeggen hebt, dan hoor je te zwijgen. M.a.w. Wittgenstein zou hier in een scherpe vorm een morele plicht hebben geformuleerd. Die neem je dan best in acht wil je niet door de mand vallen.
Maar onze Ludwig was een man die zich bezig hield met logica, hij was geen zedenpreker of moralist. En was zijn uitspraak bedoeld als een morele richtsnoer, dan had er in de originele Duitse zin het woord ‘soll’ moeten staan in plaats van ‘muß’.
De hoogbegaafde Ludwig Wittgenstein bedoelde overduidelijk: “Over dingen die niet bestaan, is het gewoon onmogelijk iets te zeggen en dus kun je niet anders dan erover te zwijgen!”. Geen kwestie van morele plicht dus, maar een zuivere als het ware fysische noodzakelijkheid. Vandaar het Duitse woord ‘muß’ in Wittgenstein’s zin."
Zelden wordt het werk van Wittgenstein als een "grap" beschouwd, als "humor".
Ik zou daar graag komaf mee maken.
